WALES: Wales ‘can be proud of clean beaches’.

ENVIRONMENT minister Wales Wales, Welsh Cymru, western peninsula and political division (principality) of Great Britain (1991 pop. 2,798,200), 8,016 sq mi (20,761 sq km), west of England; politically united with England since 1536. The capital is Cardiff.  could be proud of its beaches and the quality of bathing waters.

Mr Jones announced the results of this year's bathing water quality monitoring showing 99% meet EC mandatory standards.

Of the 80 Welsh bathing waters tested by the Environment Agency, 79 met the mandatory standard (99%) and 71 (89%) met the tighter guideline standard.

In the last decade, major improvements in water quality were made by addressing pollution.
